Have you had a chance to try the new MC single serve pod brewer? Tell us what you think.
I just got my Bunn MC less than two weeks ago for my birthday, and it has worked fine until this morning. When I plugged it in, the light around brew button turned red the indicator light was off. I poured water in it to see if that would help, and I pushed the brew button. It ran the water through it, but it didnt heat it up at all. I also ran some water through it, which made the indicator light come on, but it still flashed around the brew button. Should I leave it plugged in all the time? Or do you have any suggestions?
Iliana, your BUNN My Cafe is designed to stay plugged in at all times as it does have an internal hot water tank. However, please call our customer service team at 800-352-2866 to help resolve the issues you are experiencing with your new brewer. They will walk you through some troubleshooting over the phone to get your My Cafe back to brewing delicious coffee (or tea)!
So I bought a MC and followed the set up but the 'squeky' sound (per set up directions) that was supposed to go away never did. So I exchanged it for another one and the same thing happened. But on this one, at the end of the brew cycle comes a big 'splosh' of coffee that makes a bit of a mess. Is the squeky sound normal? Also willl the splash go away or should I exchange it again or should I get a replacement from you alll? Thanks!
SassySauce- The squeaky sound you referred to is common during set-up. From what you described about your My Cafe producing a big splash of coffee at the end of the brew and making a mess, well something sounds like it isn't quite right. Can you please give our customer service team a call at 800-352-2866? They will walk you through some troubleshooting over the phone and have you back to brewing delicious coffee in no time!
I bought my brother a My Cafe Single Serve Brewer for Christmas at our local Target. I have been extremely happy with all of the BUNN products I have purchased in the past. I have heard that the other popular brand of single serves don't last so that was my reason for purchasing the BUNN. Now we can't locate the Pods to use in it. I never imagined it would be this hard to find them. I've seen a couple places to order them on the internet but that isn't convenient at all. I'm very surprised that as popular as BUNN is that we cannot find these. Any suggestions?
Good Morning J_rockel-
I would suggest checking out mycafe.com. We sell a wide variety of pods that will work with your brother's My Cafe pod brewer! Additionally, if you could provide your zip code I may be able to offer some recommendations in your area.
I purchased my Bunn My Cafe this fall when I moved into my new home. I have loved it these past couple months until this morning when it only brewed about 1/2 my cup of coffee into my cup the remaining leaked out of the bottom onto my counter top. I cleaned up the counter and tried again, same thing happened.
I tried calling customer service when I got home from work but of course they are closed until Tuesday for the holiday weekend. I can't go without my coffee for the entire long weekend! Any help with fixing this problem is appreciated!
Nellie1967- I am very sorry for the delayed response. Sorry about the leaks you've experienced. Have you spoken to our customer service team? Your My Cafe is covered by a 2 year warranty. If you haven't, please give them a call at 800-352-2866 Monday-Friday from 7am to 5pm Central time. Or you can shoot me an email at Bunn.Marketing@bunn.com and put Attn: Brandi in the subject line. Again I apologize for the delayed response but we can help.
Thank you for getting back to me. I had tried calling customer service but since it was a holiday weekend you were all closed. Thankfully the store I purchased it at, Herburgers, was kind enough to exchange it for me.
Thank you
Does anyone have this problem with the MC? The machine was working flawlessly until 2 weeks ago... It would heat the water fine, but whenever I hit the 'brew' button, it would blow the fuse.
I tried plugging the machine up to different outlets in the house, but the same result. Any ideas?
I bought the unit Dec/2010
KennyL- I am sorry you are experiencing issues with you My Cafe. Please contact our customer service department at 800-352-2866. They will get you back to brewing delicious coffee (or tea) in no time!
Hi
I was really excited to try the new My Cafe MC. After about 2 weeks of use I still can't seem to get past the plastic-y smell from the unit and a similar plastic taste in the coffee. Thought it was just because the unit was so new. Am eager for any tips to resolve and start enjoying my new coffee maker. :) Thanks in advance for your help.
Here's what I did: I primed it as described. I brewed about 20+ coffee-cups of tap water (no pods) through to see if the taste would go away. Since then I've made about 1-2 cups of coffee a day, but not every day, with Senseo brand pods, but the taste still lingers. I also tried running 4 or 5 brew cycles through with a coffee-cup of water with a capful (half a tablespoon?) of distilled white vinegar added to the water. Then brewed more plain water. This didn't make a difference either.
What does the reserve water in the reservoir tank do? Does this need to be replaced and re-primed for fresh taste?
Thanks for looking for assistance on the forum. Our customer service team should be able to help you with this. Can you please complete the email form at this link http://www.BunnAtHome.com/parts-service. You will need the date code from the back of your brewer when you fill this out.
The hot water reservoir is what keeps the water hot and ready to brew quickly. It is made of stainless steel so shouldn't make your coffee taste like plastic. Please include all the details you listed above in the comments section of the form and the team can help you.
Four months, almost to the day, any attempt to brew trips the GFI breaker. This machine wasn't over used, it made five or six cups of coffee a week, no more.
Customer support is sending out a new one so that's a good thing but to fail after such little usage? I'm very disappointed. I hope they're willing to send UPS out to pick this up as well once I get the defective unit dried up and boxed.
Very disappointed.
UPDATE!!
THANK YOU TO THE LADY AT BUNN THAT ANSWERS THE PHONES!!
SHE TOLD ME SHE HAD THE SAME COFFEE MAKER, AND THAT YOU HAVE TO RUN 14oz THROUGH THE COFFEE MAKER TWO TIMES TO PRIME IT. MY FIRST THOUGHT IS THAT IT WILL OVERFLOW. THEY NEED TO UPDATE THE INFO, AND SAY THAT IT WON'T OVER FLOW BY PUTTING 28 oz IN IT. IF YOU HAVE NEVER HAD A BUNN COFFEE MAKER YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT IT OPERATES DIFFERENT THEN, LETS SAY A SENSO.
SO PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE THE MC AND IT DOESN'T MAKE A NOISE(PUMP) MAKE SURE YOU ADD THE 14oz OF WATER ONE MORE TIME AROUND TILL YOU HEAR THE PUMP WORKING AND IT'S SPITTING OUT WATER.
I AM NOW GETTING A GOOD CUP OF COFFEE! THANK YOU ALL!!
Thrilled to hear that Amanda was able to help you. Enjoy that delicious coffee!
We have one of the original Bunn coffee makers. We love the machine. It had the tea attachment which we loved. I broke the glass pitcher. I wish you still made that part. I used it all of the time. The machine is still working.
We decided to buy the single serve pot on HSN. It came with several samples. I want to know where we can get other kinds of decaf., coffee pods.
I'm glad you have loved you BUNN brewer. We occasionally get inquiries about the tea pitcher, but not very many. Unfortunately, the demand for the product was/is too small for us to produce it. I'm thrilled that you are giving the MC a whirl - great coffee and tea from pods one cup at a time. Check out http://www.MyCafe.com for some of the best specialty coffee pods available.
We have not had any problems. We do like the fact that you only have to brew 1 cup at a time
USEING TAP WATER. THE MACHINE IS ONLY 20 MINUTES OLD. THE PUMP IS NOT WORKING. THERE IS NO NOISE AT ALL. TRIED IT MANY TIMES, WITH NO CHANGE.
NOT HAPPY WITH BUNN!
I will have a replacement brewer sent to you. Didn't want upset you more, but had to ask the question to eliminate that as a possibility. Can you please send me your name, address and the date code from your machine to Bunn.Marketing@Bunn.com? Please put Attn: Lisa in the subject line and reference your forum username so I can marry up the info. Thanks for reaching out on the forum for help.
BOUGHT MINE FROM HSN. RECEIVED IT TODAY. NOT HAPPY WITH BUNN, AS THE MACHINE DOESN'T EVEN WORK. THE PUMP ISN'T WORKING AT ALL. NOW, IT WILL BE ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE I CAN GET IT REPLACED. I THOUGHT BUNN WAS TOP OF THE LINE COFFEE MAKERS, BUT I GUESS I WAS WRONG. IT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE COFFEE MAKER I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. GUESS I SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH MY SENSEO. NOT SURE IF I SHOULD EVER RECOMMEND BUNN TO ANYONE, BUT I WILL GIVE IT ONE MORE CHANCE.
UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!
BUNN .. Please tell these people that they need to add MORE than just the one 14 oz of water to work the first time. You actually need 2 ..14 oz. or it won't work! It took me a bit to figure it out, then it worked fine. Also I put a whole 14 oz of vinegar the first time and ran several pots of Water to get that awful taste out.
Thanks for the heads up....I have forwarded this to the product manager.
This happened to me with my first MC unit. I plugged it in, had a read light, poured in 14oz. of plain, city tap water, pushed the Brew button, and nothing. I went through all the troubleshooting and I ended up having it swapped for another unit. The second has been working fine. This does, however, seem to be an indicator that there are many defects and perhaps someone should be investigating the quality of the pump that is being installed.

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your MC. Let me try to get you to enjoying your coffee a lot quicker than a month by troubleshooting what's happening. If that doesn't work, we'll send you a replacement right away.
What kind of water are you using? Is it filtered or purified? If there's not enough mineral content, the sensors in the pour in bowl might not be registering that it's full. Please let me know. We'll figure this out.
Is the MC Single Serve Pod Brewer BPA-free where the plastic is exposed to the heating/brewing process?
I know that we use NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) grades of plastic on our home brewers. But, I need to check into your specific question. Please stay tuned.
I spoke with our engineers and here’s what I learned about the plastic materials in the MC. Most of the parts that come in contact with hot water are silicone and polypropylene – both of which are BPA-free. There is one part made of polysulfone. Polysulfone contains, but does not leach BPA. Here’s the science lesson part (at least it was for me:). In polysulfone, the molecular structure is such that it doesn’t release components that are within it. When all the news hit about baby bottles and BPA, that was a different base material whose molecular structure more readily releases BPA.
To make sure, we had an outside lab test polysulfone using hot water and NSF/FDA guidelines. The test confirmed that polysulfone did not release BPA.
This may be way more info than you wanted, but thought it would be good to pass along. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks for your response.
Sorry that your MC is not brewing delicious coffee yet. Our customer service line isn't open on the weekends and I'm hoping you've had a chance to call us today. If you haven't called in yet, can you call Monday-Friday 7am-5pm. Our service reps should be able to figure out what's happening.
Hi Lisa,
I accidentally signed up with email address as my username, a move that will most certainly result in spam. Are you able to direct this message to someone who can change my username to just robj75 or completely delete my account and I will recreate it with robj75 as a username?
Thanks!
I changed your username...hopefully that will keep you spam-free.
Hi Lisa,
I did call today and spoke to Support in Canada. It sounds like the same situation as the MCP or MCA commercial units where sometimes the water pump breaks. My situation now is that the unit is not for sale by BUNN in Canada and that the people I bought it from may have bought it from the US and re-sold here. The Support technician was very helpful in that, if the person I bought it from was unable to help, he gave me his direct extension and said to call him and we'll figure it out.
I'm glad you got in touch with a technician, but I'd like to figure out what is going on with your unit. Are you using distilled water to brew with? Can I give you a call to learn more? If so can you please send me an email with your phone number, name and reference your username so I know it is you.
Hi, I just got my MC brewer a few days ago and was excited to use it for the first time this morning. However, I was going through the set up and nothing was happening. I plugged it in for the first time and the Brew button light was red. I put the Pod Drawer in all the way, so it clicked. I put a 14oz. cup under the Pod Drawer, opened the top and poured in 14oz. of water, closed the lid, and pressed the Brew button. At this point, the set up guide says the water should be pulled in to heat up and that I may hear the pump squeal a bit. At this point, nothing happens. I let it sit for 30 minutes and the Brew button light stayed red, no noise came from the unit, and the water level did not go down. I pressed the Brew button a few more times and nothing. So I unplugged, tilted the unit to remove the water, and started over again. Still, nothing. I am in Saskatchewan and could only find one place in Canada (a store in Toronto) that sold this unit, so I had one shipped to me. The store is closed, as is any BUNN location that I call. It would seem to me that the pump is broken/seized. Am I missing something in the set up stage?
Thanks!!!
Not sure I like having to leave this plugged in 24/7 just to have hot water for two cups of coffee in the morning. Isn't that a horrible waste of electricty?
From the Use & Care Manual, linked from here:
http://www.bunnathome.com/products/single-serve/mycafehome
- After 6 hours idle, the temperature inside the stainless steel hot water tank drops to 140°F. It takes about 1 minute to get back to an optimal brewing temperature of about 200°F.
- After 26 hours idle, My Café enters sleep mode. It takes about 2 minutes to return to optimal brewing temperature (about 200°F).
- When Pod Drawer is removed or inserted, or if any button is pushed, the brewer exits energy saver/sleep mode and begins to heat up to optimal brewing temperature. When the indicator light is green, your brewer is ready to use.

But I still just unplug as I don't use during the week (drink coffee at work.) I plug it in Saturday morning, let it heat up (a few minutes), and run a cup of water through first, before brewing a cup of coffee.
Cheers!
all you have to do is turn it off if it's a mcp (original) like the one i own, heating up is quick less than 2 minutes i think, still if i for get mine turns off in a few hours
