First phase of Round 1 of Cook of the Week Challenge recipes
The 1st Cook of the Week Challenge recipes are posted! Over the next three weeks multiple phases of round one competition will be taking place. Round one of the Cook of the Week challenge consists of two competitions between four contestants. The winners from Round 1 competitions will advance to Round 2.
This week’s round 1 competition had Diane Hagopian facing off against Oscar Menoyo. The other competition was TerrieAnn Jones versus Jamie Andrade. Each competition had separate mandatory key ingredients the culinary artists must utilize in his/her recipe.
Hahopian and Menoyo were charged with creating a recipe that incorporates chicken thighs, Ying's Kitchen Kungpao Sauce, apple and kohirabi. Hagopian created a Surprise Lettuce Wrap recipe while Menoyo created Barbecued Kungpao Chicken Thighs with Kohlrabi Apple Slaw and Split Pea Dal recipe.
In the second competition Jones and Andrade received the key ingredients of Gale's root beer, round steak, pransnips and orange. Jones created a Smothered Round Steak with Parsnip Puree recipe and Andrade created Root Beer-glazed Round Steak Braciole with Roasted Red Potaties in a Root Beer-Tomato Sauce recipe. The contestants will be judged by a panel of chefs and food professionals as well as reader votes. Next week the mandatory ingredients are:
1. Fisher Nut Chef's Natural Walnut Pieces, turkey breast, figs and quinoa
2. Fortune Fish tilapia, cherries, butternut squash and brown rice
