World Brewers Cup competition coming up next week!
Brewing great coffee is a subject we are very passionate about.
So you can imagine our excitement when the Specialty Coffee Association of America and the United States Barista Championship introduced the U.S. Brewers Cup this year. The U.S. Brewers Cup recognizes and celebrates the art of manual brewing.
The first US Brewers Cup Championship competition was held in conjunction with the SCAA Expo in Houston. The competition challenged baristas from around the country to manually brew great coffee. In round 1 baristas brewed three separate brews for the 3 judges within 7 minutes. In round 1 taste alone was judged. Only 6 baristas advanced to the finals round were they were charged to brew and present a coffee of their choice in 10 minutes. The judging in the finals round was based on both taste and presentation.
The title of the first ever US Brewers Cup Champion, belongs to Andy Sprenger of Caffe Pronto in Annapolis, MD.
